I don't know what has gotten into my husband lately but HE COOKS! It is amazing. The last 5 years all I ever saw him cook was perogies and scrambled eggs. Then in the last month he has turned into this chef out of no where. he used to tell me all the time that he loves cooking and really wants to one day be able to do it well, and I always laugh. (In my mind boiling perogies, no mater how well you do it, isn't "cooking") We were at the mall one day and I had the kids in the play place and he snuck off for a little while and came back with 4 new kitchen knives (his dream "wusthof" knives, what guy has dream knives??). Then the next day he came home with a large wooden chopping block and a few small ones, then later in the week he comes home with some all clad measuring cups and a zester. (I didn't even know men knew about zesters) and then one day we have a new lemon rinder in the drawer... well this has been going on for about a month or more and I must say he has been cooking amazing AMAZING meals. Like out of a really nice restaurant. I am completely serious, not just trying to make him look good! One night he made a Vietnamese dish (our favorite when we go out for dinner) and he has done a few variations of steak with garlic mashed potatoes (those are still in the process of perfecting) and amazing vegetable sides. My mouth is watering just thinking of them all. So one day I took the kids out for a while because he needed some time to make pasta. I am sure people in some places around the world with a lot of time do this, but I have never known anyone that makes pasta ftom scratch. So josh of course came home one day with a pasta maker and continued to make a dough, roll it out and place it though the pasta maker to make noodles, then cooked it with this amazing Alfredo sauce to go with it, and viola, here it is:
The photo does not do it justice at all. I had no idea fresh pasta was so good. it soaked in all the flavour of the sauce so much more than store bought pasta. So who wants to come over for dinner? Josh will cook!! He has recently be found watching episodes of Iron Chef in the evenings as well!
While I am on the topic of food, this is a recipe my cousin radelle asked me for. It is a great food storage recipe!
Blender Wheat pancakes
1 cup milk (or milk replacement)
1 cup uncooked whole wheat
2 eggs
2 tablespoons oil
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons honey or sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Put milk and wheat in a blender. Blend on highest speed for four to five minutes or until batter is smooth (if you have a Vitamix of Bosch blender you can blend for under 2 minutes). Switch to low speed and add remaining ingredients. Blend until mixed. Bake on hot griddle. Delicious!

It cracks me up that you finished this chef post with a food storage wheat pancake recipe. haha....although I am so keeping it in my records!
I've been meaning to use my pasta maker since I got it last year....my friend karma makes it from scratch and I can tell you it does taste better than anything!!! soo delish!
fun that he's been making the time to cook up a storm! (and better yet that the meals turn out so awesome!)
Good work, Josh. I'm glad he is using all of those new kitchen tools instead of just buying them and hoping you'll use them. Oh yeah, and I'll come over for dinner, what will Josh cook?
oh how fun, and what a nice break for you! Though it sounds like it would have been cheaper to go out for dinner then to buy all this top of the line cooking equipment!!! hahaha--i guess that'll be motivation for him to keep cooking to make it worthwhile! which is great for you!!! YUM!!!
we have THE BEST alfredo recipe ever... if he ever wants it!! and good for him. brian is a great chef and i love having him be the one who does most of the cooking. i used to think i was pretty good... not anymore. I think I am a horrible chef! But one thing that is super funny.. brian is all about the presentation. He will make it look sooo pretty. he swears it tastes better. But we have nothing on making your own pasta. what kind of maker did you get? I have been wanting one.
how cute!!! gotta love a man that cooks thats for sure! I remember josh being obsessed with iron chef, so im so glad you are reaping the rewards of that! yay. homemade pasta? fancy shmacy---I dont think I could ever commit the time to it, (and can you make whole wheat that way??) but i totally agree that it is sooooo much better!
Hey, ask josh to make you "mucous cells" :)
haha!
oh, and is it wrong that i had to google "zester"??? ;)
So is 5 years the magic number? Is that when my husband will start cooking too? jks Lucky for you. Sounds so good. I can't complain because I actually like cooking just don't always have the time I need.
Wow...you lucky girl! I'm slightly jealous! But it gives me hope because Ben is the same way (perogies and mac and cheese only)...so maybe there's an iron chef somewhere inside too. I doubt it.
Enjoy enoy enjoy the food you didn't have to cook. It tasted better when you didn't make it hey??
Laura, your blog looks awesome. Please let me know how it looks so sweet. I am reuninting with my blog and it needs some work, so help me out! Good job Josh! I always knew you had it in you to cook! :)
Um, can we trade? Just kidding. That pasta dish makes my stomache cry out for some. We'll have to hop in a plane and come for dinner. Maybe we'll stay for a week so we can try all the best dishes. lol.
