Well I am a little over a week from my due date and the pregnancy itself has been pretty good, not too sick and mostly just tired. however I have had 7 or 8 times had a series of skin rashes pop up. They start out really itchy and some of them hurt and I have to ice. I tried everything from aloe, tea tree oil, calamine lotion, even cortisone cream, some antihistamines and nothing worked. I saw a naturopath, 3 different doctors at the walk in clinics, my midwives, and nobody seemed to be able to figure out what was goign on. Basically the first two days when they show up I am out of commission, I can't sleep and I am really grumpy because I couldn't sleep since i was up all night being itchy. I was miserable each time I had a new flare up. Last week I got one on my arm that by that evening had swollen my arm pretty good. By the next morning I couldn't bend or straighten my arm and it was so fat that I really didn't have an elbow. and it HURT! It was so red. I booked an appointment with my family Dr. that morning (lucky because I can never get in to see him on the same day usually) and he told me I had an infection. This irritated me so bad since I had just finished telling him the history of all the bumps and how often they come and that this one in particular is huge but they aren't all like that. So he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and sent me on my way. i got into my car and just cried. I felt like nobody was listening to my story! He just took one look and said it was an infection but didn't care to figure out the root of the problem, all the itchy pesky bumps! So I drove to my friends house who happens to be a family Dr. and we had plans for lunch that day. I told her what happened that morning and she lost it. She got on the phone with her dermatologist and got me an appointment 45 minutes later. What a blessing! He sad and listened to me and asked questions and really tried to figure out what was wrong. He sad it is fair to say that it is possibly not pregnancy related (as all the other Dr. kept telling me) and maybe I was having a problem unrelated even though I happen to be pregnant also. I was so happy to be finally taken seriously! He decided it was best to do a biopsy to figure out the problem. So I went through with that and left feeling pretty good that I would have some answers soon. I went to my midwife appointment later that day and also the chiropractor. They took one look at my arm and insisted I still do the antibiotics since my arm was really red and definitely looked infected. So before I could leave the office Carol gave me a drink of water and watched me take it. I am so grateful because 24 hours later my swelling was almost gone and I could use my arm again! I will never take for granted use of my body again! A few days later Jessica called me and said she had just gotten the results of the biopsy and I have a condition called "Sweets syndrome" so I guess I will now just wait and see if it resolves itself after pregnancy or if I need to treat it. I really just hope it goes away! So happy to finally know what is going on with my body! And I am especially happy that my case seems to be mild compared with some of the pictures I saw on google. Yikes! And just for fun, here is a picture of my swollen arm and stitched from the biopsy, and of course I had to react to the bandaide they gave me too!

Oh my goodness Laura! I didn't know it was that bad that you couldn't sleep and stuff, or move your arm! That is so sad but I am glad that you got it kind of figured out. I had to laugh when you said it was something called "sweets" disease or syndrome and that you might have to "treat" it. Hehe
So sorry. I'm glad they were finally able to figure it out. So what is sweets syndrome??
